There exists a technology which can selectively erase one's memory of a failed relationship. In this world, Joe finds out that his ex-girlfriend Caroline has erased all memories of him and decides to do the same. However, Joe eventually meets and falls in love with Caroline again. One day, he receives tapes and receipts of their procedure to erase their memories and discover that they had been lovers before, which had ended in a painful breakup.
